LLOYD WILLIAMS

his debut self-release album Dead Fools Gold was released in January and already has sold in huge numbers, down to recent gigging alone. This album was based on Lloyd Williams solo project with help and creative input from the band. Collaborative endeavours are in the works, and the full Autumn red line up are back in force. The song 68 on their myspace player shows examples of this. Roots music plays a huge part in their influence. Front man, Lloyd William’s is known on the circuit as an accomplished banjo/guitarist in his own right. The band has a banjo/guitar endorsement by Perkins traditional instruments that currently also endorse Mumford & Sons and other carefully selected players. With a large selection of London and European gigs on the roster, Autumn red are ones watch out for.

Update 12 March 2012

I’ve not posted much, update wise about what’s going on with the music for some time. What with Facebook, twitter and every other social medium around, it almost seems like overkill by bombarding people with constant information about where you’re playing or a video clip. But I’ve had a handful of emails from people in all corners asking for a more detailed update, I am very humbled by this and think its only right to get stuck in and let everyone know what’s Been going on.

To start, I’ve had a few questions asking why the Lloyd Williams solo website ‘www.lloydwilliams.com’ and FB fan page are separate to the Autumn red ones. When I made Dead fools gold, it was more or less a solo project. With banjo and string sections in mind, I was going to record some acoustic tracks that had written just for fun, but as it developed people asked when these songs would be played live. Autumn red has embraced some of the songs in our set, and it has been an amazing experience to give the more acoustic songs a louder live driven style. With the band touring and playing shows it was just getting too confusing for people to know what they were going get, Autumn red the 5 piece, Drums, keys, Guitars, Bass or me solo. To add to that, touring Europe solo as Autumn red was also getting confusing for people. Thus if your going to see Lloyd Williams, you might as well be going to see Lloyd Williams. ;-) This by no means has anything to do with the parting of Autumn red. On the contrary, we are as energized as ever, and recording and mixing our new E.P as I type.

THE FUTURE:

I won’t go into too much detail on this right now, as I will post again soon but legendary producer John Wood, who most will know from the Nick Drake, Pink Floyd, John Martyn, Fairport, Squeeze, Led Zep recordings, will be recording the next album. We are in post-production at the moment and the recording will start very soon.

The 35-date tour of Europe starts on the 1st May. This year, Ashley Jones will join me on the double bass. I’m very excited about adding this new dimension to the live set. We have a couple of pre tour shows that can be found on www.lloydwilliams.com in the UK.

I want to give massive thanks to all the people who send me such positive messages about what the music means to them. It’s one of the driving forces to keep me writing and perfecting new material. I really don’t take this for granted.

Now the awkward subject of lyrical content…. On several occasions I’ve been asked detailed questions about certain lyrical content on Dead Fools Gold. I’ve always engaged in these conversations, some I have tried to explain as best as I can, but to be honest I think these words are there for one’s personal interpretation. And going into lengthy detail about them is quite hard. Plus I would not want to disappoint you.

What I will say is that I was speaking to someone at a gig recently that interpreted a certain song in way that personally related to quite a serious tragedy in their life, and wanted to know if that happened to me, which it had not. I felt very touched that someone had even related my work to something Soo important personally, But Not all-lyrical content comes from my own life experience; some, but not all. I will still try and answer whatever I can.

Lloyd.
